Spain Has New King
(Madrid) -- Spain has a new king. King Juan Carlos ended his 39-year reign at midnight and, with the stroke of a pen, his son Felipe became Spain's monarch this morning. Juan Carlos signed his abdication into law, as he said he would last month. King Felipe the Sixth will swear an oath and make a public speech in parliament where teh formal proclamation will take place. Juan Carlos became Spain's head of state in 1975, after the death of long-time dictator Francisco Franco.
