(Undated) -- President Barack Obama is paying his respects to the family and friends of the late "Godfather of House Music," Frankie Knuckles. On his Facebook page, Knuckles' friend DJ David Morales posted a photo of a letter from the president and first lady sending their "heartfelt sympathies" to those closest to Frankie. The letter calls the DJ a "trailblazer in his field" whose "legacy lives on in the city of Chicago and on the dance floors across the globe." The Obamas also write that "Frankie's work helped open minds" and brought people together.
While he was an Illinois state senator in 2004, Barack Obama was one of the forces who helped get August 25th declared as "Frankie Knuckles Day" in the state. Frankie Knuckles passed away last month. He was 59-years-old.
