Feds: Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion Was Preventable

(Dallas, TX) -- Federal investigators say last year's deadly fertilizer plant explosion in Texas could have been prevented. A U.S. Chemical Safety Board report released Tuesday said the West Fertilizer Company blast could have been prevented if plant managers had safely stored the supply of ammonium nitrate. The report also criticized McLennan County officials for not having an emergency plan and the local community of West for not knowing how dangerous the chemical was. The explosion killed 15 people and leveled dozens of homes.
