FDA Chief Says E-Cigarette Rule Coming Soon
(Washington, DC) -- The head of the Food and Drug Administration says the agency is pushing hard for the release of a proposed rule on e-cigarettes. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg admitted in a congressional hearing Thursday it has taken too long to move the rule forward that would establish the FDA's authority over e-cigarettes. The White House Office of Management and Budget has been reviewing the FDA's proposal for five months. Health advocates and lawmakers say the delay poses risks to children attracted to the sweet flavors that e-cigarettes come in.
