John Oliver To Host Political Satire Show On HBO

(Undated) -- Jon Stewart's summertime fill-in is taking a full-time gig at HBO. British comedian John Oliver, who filled in for Stewart on his political satire series "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central this summer, will host a similar show on HBO, starting next year. In a statement, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said while they weren't searching for another weekly talk show, when they saw Oliver handling host duties on "The Daily Show," they new his "singular perspective and distinct voice belonged on HBO."
Oliver says he's excited to be joining HBO and thanked Comedy Central and everyone at "The Daily Show" for what he called "the best seven-and-a-half years" of his life. He especially thanked Jon Stewart for teaching him everything he knows. He said, "in fact, if I fail in the future, it's entirely his fault."
