Massive Defense Bill Stalled In Senate

(Washington, DC) -- A massive defense bill is stalled in the Senate as lawmakers begin a two-week Thanksgiving recess. Republicans blocked a procedural vote to move the bill forward in a dispute over how many amendments to consider. Some of the proposed amendments are aimed at curbing sexual assaults in the military. One would remove prosecutorial authority from military base commanders in sexual assault cases.

Senators are deeply divided over the measure from New York Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand . Other amendments seek to pass reforms within the current system of military justice.
