DC Council Passes Name Change Bill

(Washington, DC) -- The DC Council is now on record, calling for Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder to change the name of his team. The resolution, which calls the name "racist and derogatory," passed with ten yes votes against one member voting present and two others not in the chamber.
Councilman David Grosso, who introduced the bill, said, quote, "This is now a movement." Snyder has said he will never change the name of the team and mounted a last-minute e-mail drive with the hope that fans could convince councilmembers not to pass the resolution.
