(Undated) -- Music legend Elton John believes discrimination and intolerance still fuel the AIDS epidemic three decades later. In a "USA Today" opinion piece, he says the disease could have been beaten by now. The "Rocket Man" calls out the world healthcare system, saying the people most at risk for infection and illness are "denied quality care and continue to face systematic discrimination."
He points to the lack of expansion of the Medicare system in southern states, as well as a lack of support for syringe access programs. The artist says all of those factors have added to the difficulties behind battling the disease.
